Radiance Without-How to Glow on New Years Eve and Beyond-Radiance Serum, Body Scrub,Peach Blush, Lip Gloss, and more.

I always think that New Year’s Eve is a tricky one, after a week or so of over indulging on the food and drink and under indulging on the ‘me’ time this is prime time for skin to feel somewhat under refreshed, making it a perfect time to take actions now which will last you well into the New Year and onwards. Why wait for spring to re-invent your skin? There’s no better time than right now.

Here are my favourite tried and tested top ten radiance boosting products including radiance serum, body scrub, facial exfoliator the absolutely best peach blush, lip gloss and more. All have been tried and tested and replaced when used.

Six of the Best Designer Dresses in the Sale Right Now

Having watched with horror the crowds streaming into Selfridges a couple of days ago on the hunt for designer clothing and accessories (and everything else), and being someone who avoids the sales offline as the very thought of the crowds and the queuing sends me into a decline, I thought I’d have a browse for some sale goodies on the web.  Avoid the crowds and take a look at these six gorgeous dresses where most sizes are still available - don’t hang back, they won’t be for long.

Don’t tell me that the Paul Smith Chinoiserie dress has appeared in a previous post, I know that, I was just surprised it was still around.  On my list but all that Christmas Shopping…………….sniff.  And I have sworn off buying any more dresses until June, believe it or not.  Will I survive?  Hmmmmm we’ll see.

What to Wear for New Year’s Eve

Unless you’re going to wait until after Christmas to decide on what to wear for New Year’s Eve, you probably already have an idea, however if you haven’t yet committed yourself, and would like a little inspiration, then here are some of my show-stopping favourites……..and you don’t even have to go out to the stores to order.

My favourite? Well of course the DvF on the top right. I would go for red but ……….. would I regret it?

How to Choose Gifts for the Mother-in-Law

Or anyone else for that matter.  Having written two books about giving gifts and how to choose them, and spending a lot of time pondering this particular one (which can be fraught with difficulty, along with son-in-laws, other people’s children and that uncle you rarely see but who had decided to pitch up at your house for this year’s Christmas festivitie)s I have, I think, narrowed it down to a fine art.

Firstly you have to forget the whole idea that you need a ‘something’ to give.  No matter how beautifully wrapped, if what you give isn’t relevant to the person you’re giving it to you can forget about it.  It’ll go into the ‘to be re-given at a later date’ and we all have one of those.

The trick is to ask yourself just two questions;

What’s her Style? - minimal/over-the-top dressed-up/colourful/neutral - and this will probably apply to home and dress
What does she like to do? - Paint/listen to music (and if so what kind)/play hockey (!)/read/eat out/travel etc etc

Narrow these down to a few specifics and you’re far more likely to come up with something that’ll be appreciated.  Trust me, I know these things, whether it’s a book on her favourite hobby, a scarf in the right colour or a subscription to CN Traveller for the travel addict.  Giving the right thing will score you brownie points whether you want them or not and who wants to spend money on something that’s going to be given on?  Not me, for sure……………

And of course the same applies to men, with special reference to sports and hobbies - forget the socks, the scarf and the cufflinks………unless they’re very, very special, you’re unlikely to be thanked for them.

Karen Cole and the Perfect Black Lace Dress

If the Black Lace Dress is the dress of the season then Karen Cole has plenty of answers, so don’t lose time in having a browse round her site as some are selling out fast. That’s not to say that this is all you will find here, however New Zealand designer Karen has not missed a trick in putting together her collection of black, purple and rich red lace dresses with and without sleeves and in a variety of shapes and styles.

Take a look at the lace tops as well which include a three-quarter sleeve scoop neck lined in tulle, a v neck cross-over top and a modern, pretty empire line top which comes with an oyster or black lining.

There are also plaid (well they call them check and I’d call them plaid or tartan) jackets and skirts, their best selling long wool crepe maxi skirt, flattering merino dresses including her tie front crossover dress which I definitely want to wear on Christmas Day, although I would wear it shorter than the picture, plus her fur edged wrap which again has gone onto my ever growing Christmas list.

This is not a huge collection, but one which is unique, reasonably priced and contains on-trend pieces you won’t find anywhere else. Well worth a browse round right now as some styles are already selling out.

Don’t miss the beautiful delicate cashmere scarves which at the offer price of 30% off is a complete steal……..

Special Offer: 30% off until December 31st. Simply enter code THIRTY at online checkout or call 0207 495 2665 and quote this code.

Website Review-Hummshop.com-Luxurious and Colourful Peruvian Alpaca knitwear

Hummshop offers handmade and luxurious Peruvian knitwear with every item created from what in Peru is known as 'El oro de los Andes’, or ‘The Gold of the Andes’.

This is a fun place to buy and browse, the richness of the colours and the quirkiness of some of the pieces (take a look at the multicoloured Kaffe Fasset design wristwarmers - yes please, by the way) and the superb Alpamayo long sleeved ‘coatigan’ (ditto) to discover items you won’t have seen anywhere else and that are reasonably priced compared with other ‘designer’ knits.

As this is somewhere you may well have not come across before it is well worth having a good look around.  The newly designed website is a great of example of how to get it right (easy to get round, beautifully photographed, lots of pictures, friendly, intelligent descriptions and brilliantly styled by founder Amanda Ruiz, who I have known for a while), not to mention the fact that you’re bound to want to order something in one of the rich jewel-like colours such as deep purple, magenta, lagoon (deep teal) or neutrals grey, black or brown.  For a non-colour person such as myself to seriously covet her purple alpaca swing cardigan as well as the black version, of course, means you may well be tempted as well.

Be warned, if you’re thinking of doing a bit of Christmas shopping here you’ll be unlikely to escape without acquiring something for yourself as well.  This is a lovely website with some great designs, particularly for this time of year.
