If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Rome offering superb luxury and what is almost certainly the most beautiful view of the city then it has to be the famous Hotel Hassler.
Independently owned, the Hassler is a legendary hotel for good reason. From the white-coated doorman, the Concierge, who can organise everything you could possibly need, the luxurious rooms and the pampering spa this is a very special hotel.
Most of the luxury hotels in all of the major cities are part of a group, which doesn’t make them any less great. But to me the Hassler is so special because it is independent.
Just a small word of warning. This hotel is positioned right at the top of the Spanish Steps. Although you can walk down into the town by a longer route. The quickest way is by the steps. And then of course you have to climb back up.
Frankly it doesn’t matter if you’re
going out for dinner, to see the sights or visit the stores you have to wear
sneakers or rubber soled shoes. And nothing with a high heel. Therein
disaster lies.
Another note, and this applies to
everywhere but particularly in the Italian ‘hot spots’ if someone comes up to
you asking the way and they either have a huge bag or no phone (seriously? In
this day and age?) be suspicious, hug your bag to you and walk away.
Pickpockets and bag snatchers are everywhere.
