The Free App that lets you Open those annoying winmail.dat Files on iOS

winmail.dat file
There’s nothing more annoying than receiving an email attachment you may well have asked for, which you can’t open, words winmail.dat on it, as above.  It wasn’t until recently that I discovered the app TNEF’s Enough, which allows you to open those locked up attachments really quickly and easily, and for free.

TNEF's Enough

In case you don’t know, winmail.dat files can contain attachments, contact and/or calendar files.  These files have been sent via email from standard Microsoft Exchange and Outlook users.  What you can’t do with an iOS device is open them.

To solve this issue is download TNEF’s Enough from the App Store.  Then when you receive a winmail.dat attachment you just select it, look in the options of what to do with it (copy, message, email etc), and you’ll find ‘Copy to TNEF’s Enough’.  Then just click on ‘Files’ within the app and you’ll find your word document or whatever instantly openable.  You can then save it instantly to One Drive, print from your device, message, copy or whatever else you need.

There are plenty of winmail opening apps, most of which cost a few pounds.  There are also workarounds.  But this app has simplified the process perfectly, and best of all, it’s free.

By the way.  TNEF stands for Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format.  Anyway problem solved……
