Out here in Dallas right now it’s –7 degrees and keeping anything exposed hydrated is a challenge. Ok this weather’s not going to last very long, but wherever I am, the UK or the US or anywhere else wintery always manages to take me by surprise at a time when I least want to go out.
So this morning I decided not to be beaten and to go and get the lip balm I’ve always been promising myself, Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Protective Lip Balm, which pops perfectly into my bag and made me think what else will do this job, possibly for less, and possibly just as well. After all this is an essential beauty item.
There are, of course hundreds of lip balms around by every brand you can think of, from Chapstick to Burts Bees and on to Dior. A lip balm, to me, has to be lipstick shaped so that I can take it anywhere, be applied just like a lipstick with no finger involved, have no or almost no fragrance and no or almost no colour. And it needs to do just what it says on the tin – just as these do.
