I’ve personally don’t like matte lipsticks because again, I think they can make you look tired, although I know that many have a favourite matte colour and then use lip gloss – which to me seems a bit of a cheat. I like a lipstick with a rich colour formulation and quite frequently a bit of shimmer. A subtle shimmer lipstick can lift your face on a tired day as much as anything else.
Some of the grown up brands tell me that ‘shimmer is so over’ but frankly it’s what suits you that matters the most in matters of fashion and beauty, not what some beauty house decides. If you want to be a beauty fashion victim fine, otherwise carry on wearing what looks best with your skin tone and the clothes that you like to wear. In any case, funnily enough, it seems to be making a return – probably because it does flatter everyone.
Each season there’s a new crop of nude lipsticks and each season at least one favourite has the door slammed shut on it. So here are my current favourites. If you want to save the pennies you’ll need to order L’Oreal’s Gold Obsession Lipstick in Nude Gold straight away – it’s one of the nicest colours I’ve found anywhere at a price far below those of its superbrand companions. Or you can have a happy splurge on By Terry’s Terrybly Lipstick in Terrybly Nude. Or try both. I don’t believe you can ever have too many deliciously nude lipsticks to hand.
