Like most I’m a beauty product and cosmetic collector and I love to be surrounded by different products to try, and to fall in and out of love with.
Like most I’m usually in a hurry and my favourite products will always be those that a) I wouldn’t be without whatever else was on offer and b) do exactly what they’re meant to.
With so many different products on offer, all promising to do different things, I decided to narrow it down to my favourites and see just exactly how long it took me to get me ready-to-face-the-world ready this morning. 4 minutes and 55 seconds was the result.
I start with Clarins One Step water cleanser which cleanses and brightens your skin at the same time quickly and simply and with very good results. Then always on the look-out for great reviews of new beauty products I’ve now incorporated Pixi’s excellent Glow Peel Pads into my routine which really do give your face a glow each day after cleansing, followed by Caudalie’s Radiance Serum.
Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Moisturiser has become one of my all time favourites – it comes in a large pot which can be decanted for travelling into one of Muji’s travel size cream pots. Then a light coverage of Bobbi Brown’s BB Cream SPF 35 can be used on it’s own or with foundation. I used another Charlotte Tilbury favourite, her Light Wonder Foundation. In fact you can use both of these on their own or together if you want a bit more coverage, and neither say ‘full on made up’ – I love a sheer look – too much makeup frequently ends up looking tacky.
As far as eye products are concerned Estee Lauder’s double ended serum and concealer are brilliant, not only brightening and covering but offering a long lasting skincare solution for day, and their Perfectionist compact powder duo – you may have gathered by now that I love double duty products - is a setting powder and illuminating powder cleverly combined. For a highlight, blush and bronzing powder trio I don’t think you can beat Kevin Aucoin’s Neo Bronzer, which comes in two shades, one slightly warmer than the other.
Eyebrows are taken care of by Clinique’s Instant Lift Brow Pencil and Stila’s Smudge Stick is one of the only ‘waterproof’ eye liners I’ve found which really does stay put. I’ve tried so many and the bad ones will remain nameless for now, but trust me this one is truly excellent. Then award winning Lancome Hypnose Mascara which has to be one of the best ever followed by a slick of Mac Lustre Lipstick in Midimauve which doesn’t appear mauve at all, but more of a soft nude.
You may like to stick to one brand for all of your beauty products, but then I think you miss out on the fun of trying something new. Where skincare is concerned unless you have really problematic skin you will almost certainly find, as I have, there there are many great products out there to have fun with…….
