There are several reasons why you may well need a different foundation for the summer months from the one you normally use – unless of course you’re one of those happy to go makeup-free…. which I am not.
As one of those who always likes to wear some coverage, however sheer it may be and whatever the time of year, I always gravitate to something offering a lighter coverage during the summer months - who wants to look obviously 'made-up' after all?
With cushion foundations, serum formulas, BB creams and tinted moisturisers on offer from almost every brand, with or without added SPF, there’s so much choice it can be tricky to decide what to put on your face at any time.
Most importantly, colourwise, make sure you don’t select your foundation only in indoor lighting. Insist on seeing the colour on your skin in daylight. Too many times I’ve bought a foundation without doing just that and ended up with something the wrong colour. Indoor lighting almost always has an increased yellow cast which can totally destroy your chances of really seeing what you’re buying.
Liquid formulas for the most part will give you a lighter coverage than a compact foundation and one you can build for the desired effect. They together with some BB creams and tinted moisturisers can give you a buildable, natural looking coverage for summer, and if you have a suntan, or want a slightly more bronzed look they can do that as well.
My current favourites are Bobbi Brown’s cushion compact foundation and Daniel Sandler’s Invisible Radiance Foundation with Concealer. Both are brilliant for a sheer summer coverage without that 'I'm wearing makeup' look. Eve Lom is currently on sale so snap it up if you love her brand, otherwise you may not find it anywhere, and Daniel Sandler's Invisible Radiance seems to be very hard to track down so grab it if you can.
