By now you’ll have realised that fitness wear – for yoga, Pilates, running or working out is no longer restricted to the gym. Athleisure is the new smart casual – a look that needs perfecting if you want to be taken seriously – and one that is all day long comfortable. So comfortable in fact, that you may be tempted to stay in your silver sneakers for the evening and forget the heels. I suggest you think twice on that one depending on who you’re with and where you’re going.
Having said that there are two types of fitness addicts now wearing their work-out gear all day. The first is ‘look at me’ who’s worked long and hard for a toned body and wants everyone to do just that so she tends to wear at least one blindingly bright piece of clothing (or all of it bright) plus possibly neon orange trainers. This will get you looked at but doesn’t really work all day.
The other option is ‘look at me’s more subtle sister - combining a small flash of something bright – such as my all time favourite Feetures running socks which come in amazing colours such as Electric Green and Coral – with workout gear that you really can wear all day and not feel out of place anywhere, however fit you are.
This boils down to a palette mainly of neutrals which all work together in numerous combinations. Add a neat chic puffa jacket or coat and change from your workout trainers to something a little more relaxed – if you want to – and you’re good to go. Just about anywhere…
