My son had friends over this weekend. Loads of them, for a barbeque, to laze around in the sunshine and drink wine until the early hours. These are grown up friends - he’s 27 - who arrived with bottles galore and ate us out of house and home, including an impressive amount of meringue and chocolate brownies.
The next morning two of them as a thank you gave me Molton Brown’s delightful hand wash and lotion. A perfect present for a luxe lover who doesn’t drink that much and tries not to eat chocolate, from one of my favourite brands.
Which got me thinking. It’s too easy to give booze (some people don’t drink, or that much), chocolates (diet?) or flowers but with a little extra thought you can give something that is totally right for the recipient and doesn’t have to break the bank. Plus if you buy from a luxury brand you know the packaging will be perfect.
So here’s my selection of pretty summer gifts and treats which you might want to consider if you’re going visiting in the near future. Some are a little off the beaten track by brands you may not have heard of. All of them will make most hostesses very happy.
