If you’re tempted to carry on with the same routine once it warms up and the sun comes out think again. Your make-up wants to become lighter, more sheer and more glowing (in a subtle way) than you wear in the cooler months.
Start with your primer and make sure that it contains SPF. That way not only will your face makeup stay on your face, but you’ll be protected as well. My favourite is Laura Mercier Primer with SPF 30.
Then move on to your foundation. Many say move to a tinted moisturiser. Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation gives a very light and sheer coverage and offers a bit more coverage than just a tint but not as heavy as most other foundations.
Nars Setting Powder is very lightweight and comes in both compact and loose form. Translucent, it imparts no colour, but keeps your face matte with a natural look for hours.
Where blush is concerned try something a little more peachy for the summer. Benefit’s Sugarbomb blush has four colours to play with. Alternatively if you want a stick blush try Charlotte Tilbury’s Beach Stick. And my favourite stick highlighter is Nars The Multiple in Hot Sand. Don’t use too much – the summer look is a subtle shimmer.
For bronze glow, or bronze and highlighter combined, two of the best are Guerlain’s Terracotta Bronzing Powder, which is a mixture of different shades, and Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow which is a bronzing powder and highlighter combined. Both are seriously good for bronzing and sculpting and you’ll probably want to use these all year round.
My favourite eyeliner is Clinique Intense, which comes in lots of shades and has a smudger on the end. It’s self sharpening, and you can create a thin line or smudge to a smoky look as you want. Then it lasts all day. When it’s really hot try Lancome’s best selling Hypnose Mascara in the waterproof version which again will last all day (and all night if you want it to).
Finally who doesn’t love a shimmering nude lipstick for summer. So much more subtle than darker colours or red. Flattering to every skin tone and city or beach ready. Try Estee Lauder Shimmering Lipstick in Beige (my current Favourite), or Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick in Nude Kate.
