For a really good selection you need to go to one of the online stores who specialise in hard to find beauty products by brands such as Pixi Beauty, Daniel Sandler, Lord and Berry and Cargo Cosmetics. They cost less and yes, they really work.

Where brows are concerned I always prefer a kit, or a pencil with a shaping brush on one end, as you’re probably going to need this at some stage. But it’s not necessary to spend the earth. Particular likes here are L’Oreal Paris shaping brow kit and Cargo Cosmetics eyebrow pencil.

I’m always sceptical about concealers, particularly the cheaper variety, which is why I’ve picked tried and tested brands such as Maybelline (incredibly well priced and a complete best seller) and Pixi Beauty again, who specialise in radiance and concealers. New favourite is Lord and Berry’s concealing and illuminating stick but all of these will do the business at so much less than premium brands.

Finally on to highlighters, where you really have to be careful not to look as though you’re the fairy on top of the Christmas tree with a whole load of shimmer and sparkle. Apply with a light touch and expect to be told how well you’re looking.
