There’s always so much going on right now from gift buying to working out
what to wear and the last thing you want is to be scrimmaging through your
closet before each drinks, lunch, dinner and party.
Having had this end in disaster several times, I for one have made up my mind this year to try and create a series of looks that work, sometimes together and sometimes not, and will take me from smart casual to full-on party.
A lot will depend on how you accessorise. This is a great time of year to bring out the bling you already have and make a couple of additions if you need to. Invest in a chic clutch. Get out your sky high heels. These below are all items you can dress up or down, which is the whole point, and they work in many different ways depending, for the most part, on how you accessorise them.

The printed blouse is one of this seasons must have items, and for good reason. You probably already have a few in your collection. They’re brilliant because you can tuck them in or out (I always think out is more flattering unless you’re very slim) and they work with jeans, smart pants, pencil skirts and leggings and for day or night.

The dressy top is another all time favourite, with decorative layers, lace trims and either jersey, chiffon or knit. For casual to dressed-up evening, team with simple modern jewellery and wear with anything.

Dresses from a grown-up mesh detail sheath to a lace trimmed wrap dress or lace bodice shift. All will work from day to evening. If you want room to overeat don’t go for anything too body-con. Mint Velvet’s pretty print boho dress would be perfect for camouflaging the Christmas Pud.
Finally for winter dressing up there’s nothing like a gorgeous plush faux fur coat to wear over everything. Most are going fast. Wear them with jeans, or a dress and boots or heels, or smart pants, or leggings, they’ll bring added glamour to whatever you decide to wear…
So get set with one of each of the above. Your favourite pants, jeans and/or leggings. Jewels, clutch, heels or boots or both - and you have the perfect capsule wardrobe for Christmas, New Year and beyond which you can change over depending on how dressed up you want to be.
