The little knit dress is perfect for this time of year. In print or plain, wrapped, fit and flare or body-con, these dresses can be both chic and cosy, and many can be worn from dawn until dusk.
The beauty of these dresses is that they don’t crease and will look as good first thing as when you take them off. The drawback can be that if you’re not careful you can get too hot. I always look for scoop or v necks, lightweight knits in natural yarns and/or fit and flare shapes, as the heavier, man made fibres and fitted knit dresses can leave you red faced when you’re out and about – or cooking up a storm on Christmas day.
A really clever knit dress will flatter your shape – if you’re more curvy go for a wrap or fit and flare rather than straight up and down, and be careful what you wear underneath. Prints will camouflage as well, a plain knit dress can be unkind to lumps and bumps and outline anything you’re wearing underneath. Top to toe Spanx will make you even warmer.
