10 of the best–Faux fur and shearling gilets

If you’re not quite in the mood for a full-on faux fur jacket or coat, then now’s the time to invest in a faux fur or shearling gilet.  The best of these are already flying out of the stores if they haven’t already gone.  All of these below are available as of now.

The thing to remember where a gilet is concerned is that you can wear them so many different ways – most are chic enough to be dressed up or down – although I don’t personally go with the bare arms idea, I prefer to wear a layer underneath, however thick or thin, dressy or casual.

Where warmth is concerned you need to take into account that shearling (ie the real thing) will be the warmest, followed by anything with fur on the inside, followed by lined versions with fur on the outside.  They’re all winter warmers, it’s just the degree of warmth that’s affected.

You can spend a fortune on the real thing, and get very close to the look with faux.  Mint Velvet always has a seriously good choice of gorgeous and modern gilets – some of which are already hard to track down.  Celtic have the most reasonably priced Toscana and merino shearling gilets.

If you’re thinking of putting one of these on your Christmas list I suggest you think carefully, chances are that unless your gift giver is going to go and splash the cash right now, your choice will have disappeared.  From shearling to faux, a gilet is this season’s must have item.
