Restaurant Reviews-Estatorio Milos comes to London from New York with a set lunch and fabulously fresh fish.

Milos is a well known upscale Mediterranean restaurant in New York which I’ve been to a few times. Here’s my review of the New York Milos.  As I’ve really enjoyed my dinners there, when I saw it had just opened in London a visit became essential and I was happy to discover that they offer a fixed price lunch menu, 3 courses for £29.

When you walk through the heavy wooden doors (more NY than London) of Milos at 1 Regent Street you could think you’re in New York.  The layout is different but the ambiance, the seating, the decor and the huge display of fresh fish and tomatoes is very similar.  As is the food, incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared whatever you order.

Nicholas Lander of the FT calls the set lunch ‘mundane’ (as did my friend) and you definitely get more bang for your buck in terms of complicated cooking over at Franco’s in Jermyn Street or Koffmann’s at the Berkeley - click through to read my review on both - but if you, as I do, love beautiful quality food you will definitely want to give Milos a try.  The tomatoes in the Greek salad are gorgeous, the salmon cooked to perfection, and if you dip your spoon into the Greek yoghurt with cherries at the end you’ll be transported to blue skies and sunshine.  Heaven.

You can spend pretty much anything you like at Milos, stick to the set menus (lunch or pre-theatre) and try the food for less, or go for broke and pick a fish from the counter and have it prepared specially for you.

I got there early and by the time I left at about 2pm the place was almost full.  Apparently it’s heaving in the evenings, which doesn’t surprise me. Book before you go.
