When you’re out and about or changing from work to evening, the last thing you want is to carry a vast amount of makeup with you, and yet for a full refresh, or even a touch up on the go, you want to have - everything - with you from foundation and concealer to blush and eyeliner.
There is a way round this, a foundation/concealer in one, a palette that holds everything from day and night eyeliners to bronzer and highlighter, a brush set that fits neatly in your bag and doesn’t cost the earth, and a lipstick that works from day to night. Try Bobbi Brown’s Brown Shimmer - an all time favourite.
Guerlain Lingerie de Peau slim black palette containing foundation, concealer and applicator sponge is something I never want to be without. The coverage is sheer and long lasting and the palette (unlike some, unbelievably) has a mirror which is large enough so you can do your complete touch up on the train, at your desk, or anywhere. It’s good enough for touch-ups or for a complete re-do. If you want to see the shades more clearly click here to Guerlain’s website.
Where makeup is concerned everyone has their favourites, and I have dipped into many, but for travel Trish McEvoy is quite simply unbeatable. You can carry her planner away with you, or just take out the page with your chosen products and colours and slip it into a makeup purse. The beauty of this is that either way you get to choose the colours of everything, it’s lightweight, and this size page above will take everything.
Most palettes have at least one colour you don’t particularly like - but these are yours to choose. Selfridges carries the full range of Trish McEvoy but doesn’t show all the colours online (shame), so you can either go in and choose, alternatively you can visit the Trish McEvoy website in the US and select your colours, then call Selfridges Trish McEvoy on the direct line 0207 318 3861 to order. If that all sounds like too much trouble trust me that when you have your planner set up you’ll never look back.

For travel I don’t use expensive brushes although there are many sets around (and I use Sephora for home). This is a brilliant mini makeup brush set by Japonesque that’ll set you back £20 and the brushes are good quality.
As far as toting your makeup around you’ll find many mini makeup purses to choose from in my recent post at Glamoursleuth on 10 ways to organise your tote.
