Lauren Ralph Lauren slimming evening and cocktail dresses

Lauren Ralph Lauren designs flattering, modern day, drinks and dinner dresses and full length red carpet gowns which are excellent for curvy girls.  Cut from a matte mid-weight jersey fabric and designed to hide the bits you want to hide and emphasise you those you don’t, these are must-have dresses which are now thankfully available in the UK.

You’ll find plenty of cheap, slinky jersey around which can’t match the quality of these which are both lightweight and pretty much un-crushable.  Take a LRL dress out of your tote to change into after dark and you’ll find it the same as when you took it off the hanger.  Proviso – it needs to be the jersey.

These are some of the most flattering dresses I’ve found, and no matter how much I’ve strayed I’ve always returned because, without a huge investment, these are the best.

With regards to sizing there is a lot of stretch in the fabric so if you’re between sizes you could go a size down, however make sure that whatever you wear or don’t wear underneath doesn’t show any extra lines or bumps - and this only applies to the jersey dresses, not lace or sequin.

There’s now a very good selection in the UK – some of them, particularly those with sleeves and for evening sell out very fast, so don’t expect them to hang around.

The two best collections are to be found at John Lewis and House of Fraser, with the latter having the largest range
