What to Wear to a Valentine’s Day Dinner

What to wear to a Valentine’s Day dinner can sometimes seem a bit of a conundrum, do you pull an old favourite out of your wardrobe, or go for something new and flirty.  Whether you’re expecting it to be a very special occasion, a surprise, or not, Valentine’s Day is a perfect excuse to invest in a new dress, LBD or otherwise, dressed up to the nines or otherwise.  Not that one really needs an excuse…..

For Valentine’s Day dresses, whether for a dinner at home or out somewhere swanky, it needs to have the following attributes and these are not in order of importance, although number 1 can ruin any dress if it’s not right, no matter how gorgeous.

1  Be the perfect length for you
2  Fit in the most flattering way for you
3  Have something a little, but not overtly, sexy about it, which could be just about the way it fits
4  Be a dress you fall in love with and know that it makes you stand out in a crowd.
5  Be a number that you know you’ll want to wear over and over again

Here are 12 Valentine’s Day dresses, some with long sleeves and some without, some bodycon and some easier fitting, no doubt there are many more, but I could fall in love with any or all of these…….

Just a note, two things that can ruin a great dress are firstly, as I said above, the length, too long and it may look frumpy, too short and you risk looking like mutton dressed as lamb.  And the other is what to wear underneath.  Any smooth soft fabric dress such as jersey will pick up on whatever you’re wearing underneath unless you’re very careful, so make sure you look at your Valentine’s Day dress from the back and side with what you plan to wear underneath before you go out on the town.
