The New Multitasking Beauty Palettes
I’m always tempted by the idea of the beauty palette - the idea that one beautifully designed compact can do so many things, but so often they don’t. Or they do a few things well and the rest is a waste of space.
At this time of year all the new spring/summer makeup palettes have been launched, some of which will solve more than one makeup need in one go, eye palettes that will take you from day to night (and include a highlighter that you can use on your face), lip gloss and bronzer combined, you name it, you’ll find it. Then there are the usual eye-shadow palettes, lip colour palettes and blush palettes that are limited in what they can achieve, and which, if you’re me, usually end up at the bottom of my makeup drawer at the end of the season.
Favourites this season are Urban Decay Naked II Palette which easily goes from day to night with shimmer and shadow, highlighter, liner and a brush, Wild About Beauty Diving Nights Collection and, for lovers of a little luxury Tom Ford’s lusciously coloured eye and cheek palette.
Makeup palettes make great gifts, so long as you know the kind of makeup your daughter/friend/colleague likes to wear, and if you’re buying for yourself there’s so much choice out there it’s easy to get it wrong, and then not use what you’ve bought, having been caught by the moment. Buy a palette that does a few different things, such as bronze, blush and highlighter, or eyes and cheeks, and you’re far more likely to keep yours going for a while.
