Family owned Collin Street Bakery has been baking its Deluxe Fruit Cake since 1896 and for anyone with a seriously sweet tooth you should give it a try. It comes in a bright red tin and makes a great gift for the sweet toothed as well - although whether anyone who eats this famous delicacy will hang on to their teeth for long remains to be seen.........
Collin Street Bakery is a famous US institution and passing by yesterday on the road from Houston to Dallas I stopped off for a quick lunch - no, no cake - they do salads and sandwiches as well at their bakery/cafe in Corsicana, Texas. I did buy a cake for a friend, as who could come away without something? - and they will deliver some of their cakes to the UK (and elsewhere internationally) but don't get too excited, check first on each cake to see if it can be yours.

Some of the cakes here aren't available for international shipping, but if your taste buds are ignited at the thought of their Deluxe Fruit Cake which has more fruit in it than any cake I have ever set eyes on, or a slice of Apricot Pecan Cake, then you can have it shipped to you just about anywhere. You need to click on a cake to see if it's up for International Delivery and a word or warning, don't go over to the cheesecake section unless you live in the US - you'll just have to bake your own.
Sam Houston - finally - as I have made this trip several times, I managed to take a picture of the huge (seriously, enormous), statue of Sam Houston, best known for his role in bringing Texas into the United States, and namesake of the city which is the fourth largest in the US. You can see him from about 7 miles away on a clear day ........
