Hard red and bright orange can be the hardest to wear, particularly if you’re pale, and tangerine and coral can look gorgeous on lightly bronzed skin but will suit most complexions. Whichever colour you go for make sure when trying it on that you look in daylight – artificial light can cast an unreal glow which won’t reflect what you’ll look like in the daylight.

Red, orange, coral and tangerine dresses come in all shapes and sizes this summer, as sundresses, as working shift dresses and relaxed jersey numbers and by designers from Diane von Furstenberg to Oasis. Wear gold sandals or nude heels with all of these as black will immediately draw attention to your feet and make the dress look heavier than the slim flattering shape you want it to be.

If I was going to pick three of the above, I’d go for Coast’s shoulder show-off Gina Dress, Diane von Furstenberg’s ruched orange dress and Cyell’s pretty little sundress. Avoid sleeves unless you’re picking a style in fine jersey and you really want to be that much covered up, cap sleeves or sleeveless work very well with so much colour. And if you’re going for jersey make sure you don’t show unwanted lumps and bumps underneath, so when trying on check in day and artifical light, and from all angles. Eyes wide open…….
