From Designer to High Street - Where to Find This Season’s Luxurious Leather Jackets

Hands up if you don’t have a favourite leather jacket in your wardrobe?  Thought not.  Most of us have one if not more of these sartorial staples, ready to be worn with jeans, smart pants or even slung over a little black dress for a modern ‘I couldn’t care less’ look.

The little leather jacket, particularly the biker jacket, is no longer an article of luxury, but an essential, and there’s no age bar on who can wear one as long as it fits properly and is worn with the right clothes and accessories.  But beware, there are some poor quality, badly cut jackets out there that won’t stay your friend for very long.

The choice online is humungous and takes the strain out of tired feet at the end of a shopping, searching day when you grab the last one you see and regret it for months/years.  However make sure you read the small print about sizing and fit and remember you get what you pay for until you’re up in the designer label arena when you’re paying not just for a jacket but for the name inside as well.

Take a look at the selection below and find the best places to buy online.

There are some seriously good mid-range brands such as Reiss, Karen Millen, Whistles and Jigsaw who have a range of attractive, chic high quality leather jackets. Then there are cheaper brands such as Mango and Oasis who offer modern shapes and great prices.

At the designer, luxury leather jacket end take a look at Day Birger et Mikkelsen, Karl Largerfeld, Oak and Iro, or if you’re really going for broke Helmut Lang and Rick Owens.

A great leather jacket will last you for years, age beautifully and work with most things.  So it’s worth investing a little bit more for something you’ll probably wear a great deal, unlike an instantly recognisable dress you may wear only a few times.  The old saying goes ‘divide the cost of what you own by the number of times you wear it’.  And it works.

And if you already have a favourite black leather jacket you may want to go for another colour, although if you’re updating, black is, of course, the number one best seller.

Finally over at Zalando you can expect to find a huge raft of brands, including well known labels, jeans brands, and many you won’t have heard of before.  The beauty of this store is the amount of detail you’ll find for every single item, from stills to model shots.  The choice is  enormous with every colour and style on offer and a wide range of prices.

The biker style is by far the most popular, as you’ll no doubt have gathered from the above, however at most stores you’ll find other styles as well, including waterfall and simple zip front.  Look out for quilted jackets that can add bulk and if you want that effect make sure you’re looking at a slimline, fine leather jacket that won’t do that to you.

My favourite brand at Zalando for both leather and shearling is Ventcouvert so have a browse if you feel like splashing out……
and no, I haven’t……..
