It’s chilly, wet and dull out there, what better time then now to make a splash in a little red dress and put everyone else in the shade. The red dress is coming through strongly for autumn so it’s time to put your name on to one of these.
The best red dresses are designed to fit and flatter and there are a lot of them out there from bodycon to wrap, and fit and flare dresses with skater skirts stopping well above the knee for those who like to show some leg.
Long sleeves on a bright red dress can add quite a lot of extra fabric as can too much ruching, which is why my preference is for simple shapes that hug curves at least down to the waist, and sleeveless, cap sleeved or 3/4 sleeve.
There are so many different shades of red out there, but if you’re going to go for it you might as well pick a stand-out dress in a statement shade such as bright pillar box or cherry. Red works perfectly with black accessories and bare legs or black stockings. And the highest heels you can walk in. After all, what’s the point in wearing red if you’re not going to show off?………..
My favourites from the dresses above are Alaia’s macrame detail red fit and flare dress with cut-out hem (well it would be, wouldn’t it, as I tried it on last week in Paris and know full well that it’s a dream dress? It’s just the price…….), Preen’s sleeveless v neck frilly skirt fitted red dress, and the sweet little red fit and flare dress from Oasis - a go anywhere dress in a gorgeous colour and with a price tag to match.
