What to Wear to the Gym at Any Age

What to wear to the gym should be an easily answered question - whatever you feel comfortable in.  But the choice now in the stores from neutrals to neons makes you wonder.  The trend has definitely moved on from just greys and blacks to enormously bright trainers, gym pants, sports bras (check out Victoria’s Secret’s sports bras) and even socks.  So it’s sports shopping heaven or a minefield out there with so much choice.

The other issue is age.  Or is it an issue?  Can you look cool at the gym when you’re a little bit older (and no I’m not saying) and what should you wear?

I don’t think that age is the issue here but how you feel about yourself.  The gym is somewhere where, whether you like it or not, you’ll be watched, and it’s also somewhere it’s hard to hide your figure.  Slim tight stretchy capri pants and vests don’t allow you to hide anything.  At all.

At the gym I go to it’s the youngest and fittest who like to show off the brightest colours, but you can’t go wrong at any age with a pair of bright trainers, sports bra or t-shirt.  Dark grey or black pants or shorts are the most flattering for most and you can mix it in with one piece of bright which not only makes it more interesting, but looks good too.

Whatever Nike, Adidas and the like do with colour there’s always be a place for the neutrals, and the fitter you are the brighter you can go.  If you want.  Expect to be looked at.  There’s no place to hide at the gym.  So go on then, give colour a whirl.
