From Ice Watch and Karl Lagerfeld to Michael Kors and Guess -The New Watch as Jewellery
With Ice Watch and Marc by Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Guess watches, you can treat your watch as a piece of jewellery, something to be changed along with your clothes and accessories to suit the weather, the time of day and what kind of mood you’re in.
As someone who wears the same watch every day - love it, it’s totally waterproof, goes with everything - I see these watches on display in the stores and covet some of them, although I think once you start collecting jewellery watches you can’t just have one, you have to own several. The whole point is that you can have a lot of fun with a bright red Ice Watch, wear leopard print without being over the top (well kind of) with Guess’s leopard print face and strap watch, bring out the bling with Michael Kors’ sporty sparkle chronograph watch and rock some retro with Marc Jacobs’ Baby Dave watch.
Then you can show off Karl Lagerfeld’s extraordinary leather studded zipped watch which comes in different colours and which yes, you can unzip and wear as a narrow timepiece or one of Marco Mavilla’s new Pepito delicate bracelet watches with pave stones and design on the back. Both definitely talking points as well as time pieces.
Everyone’s getting in on the act, including Burberry, DKNY and Vivienne Westwood, and new editions are being launched all the time, so whatever your style there’s bound to be a jewellery watch for you but be warned, once you start collecting it all becomes too too tempting.
Prices are for the most part a great deal less than you would pay for a watch by one of the major watch and luxury brands such as Rolex, Tag, Bvlgari and Chopard, as you would expect, and many look much more expensive than they are. The main thing is to browse a good range, such as they have in the accessory watch collection at Selfridges, and choose your style for the day. And go on from there…….
