Guiseppe Zanotti to Macy’s - The Black Suede Boot Edit
There’s something about a pair of high heeled black suede boots. It’s not just that they’re sexy, or flattering, or add an edge to pretty well anything, it’s also the fact that great pair will last you for years (as long as you look after them), and, unlike very high shoes for some reason, you may even be able to walk in them.
Whatever you wear a great pair of these with they will add instant siren-like glamour and appeal and make you walk tall. They’ll also work with everything from a sleek daytime shift to a chic little black dress. As someone who has worn her favourite pair just recently from subway to opera to smart places to eat in Paris night after night I know these things.
You can spend anything you like on a pair of black suede boots, from ‘the sky’s the limit’ to some quite reasonable and still great looking boots, but to my mind there are some things you need to check before you flash the plastic –
That there’s padding on the insole so that you really will be able to walk a distance,
They should hug your calves rather than offer gaping space at the top, which many do,
They need to come come up high enough on your leg. Over the knee if you want (and have the legs for them) but right up to your knee if they don’t. And wear with bare legs if you dare.
Just one other thing – make sure that the toe shape is flattering and preferably almond shaped or pointed this winter, and the heel can be anything from kitten to stiletto, both of course with or without a platform. For long distance stepping out a rubber sole can be excellent.
Of course this is the boot buying season and there are hundreds of pairs to choose from. But for a wide range of prices take a look at these – from designer to high street – and get ready to step out.
Pet Peeves: Wedge boots? Chic today gone tomorrow? Why bother? A heeled boot will remain ‘current’ for ever.
Leather vs Suede: Suede wins in the glamour stakes and works better from day to night.
Finally; the last pair of boots here is from Macy’s in the US, who will ship to you here (unless you’re crossing the pond soon). Even with added VAT (as tax is added on to the retail price when you check-out within the US), duty if applicable and shipping costs you can sometimes find very good deals by browsing stores such as www.macys.com.
