The obvious answer as to how to make your legs look longer is diet and exercise however (moving on swiftly)in a fashion sense it’s partly where your skirt or trousers stop that makes the difference, to balance the shape of your legs, and most specially what you put on your feet. Nothing, but nothing, will shorten your legs quicker than a pair of dark coloured clumpy shoes against a pair of white legs and too short or too long skirt. Nothing.
It’s hard to understand why on so many websites instead of using a pair of shoes that are both modern and flattering it seems irresistible to put a model wearing a gorgeously skimpy dress into a pair of heavy shoes. Having run more fashion shoots than I care to remember I know that there is a fine line between creating something that looks old fashioned and something unflatteringly modern for the sake of it. Even models with thin legs will look heavier with the wrong shoes, or frumpy in a pair of pumps.
If you want the best shoes to make your legs look longer (particularly in the spring and summer) you’re looking at nude or pale python print and pale gold shoes and sandals and then again the shape has to be right. Ankle straps, unless barely visible, can shorten your legs as can anything cut too high up the foot so make sure you’re looking objectively when you try a pair on.
Gold strappy sandals are chic for summer and will take you absolutely everywhere from weddings to tropical beach cocktails. When I travel to somewhere warm I take three pairs with different heel heights and I’m rarely out of them. Simple, modern and wearable gold sandals are surprisingly hard to find – there are plenty that are over jewelled however, which limits their wearability.
With snake print you have to be careful as some of it is very dark and can look heavier than you think. This pair of strappy sandals from KG by Kurt Geiger is the perfect colour for spring.
