There’s a definite divide between those who are natural stripe wearers and those who are not. Put me for example into anything striped and I’m likely to feel quite ill at ease most of the time, as I’m just not that striped dress/top/bag/shoes person.
When the sun comes out however, and nautical stripes become somewhat more natural, and particularly as they are a perennial trend, you may feel the urge to go for stripes, as a dress, jacket, cardigan, shoes or bag, and to wear with jeans or casually tailored.
If you have a curvy figure stripes present even more of a problem, as they’re most likely to make you look shorter and wider. There are certain types of stripes that work best, accessories being the least threatening, and the most flattering stripes are those that are close together or in muted colours.
There’s an art to making stripes look fresh and modern, it’s all too easy to churn out the same old styles. Loft is one of the stores I always have a browse in in the US, it’s very reasonably priced and often has some easy to wear casual dresses and jackets.
You can order from Loft via www.usunlocked.com and you may find that despite the duty and postage you’re still getting a good deal compared to prices and styles in the UK.
Having said that there’s an abundance of stripes here too including wearable dresses and sexy shoes. Here are my favourites.
And finally, if you’d rather accessorise your stripes, here are some of the options.
