How to Wear Florals–Fashion in Full Bloom

Dolce & Gabbana Floral Print DressSpring and summer collections see the blooming of floral prints – everywhere.  Many of these are to my mind totally overblown, too bright, ditsy, old fashioned and often with strange colour mixes but, and this is a big but, look around properly and you can pick out some extraordinarily pretty modern floral prints..

The trick here is to combine a classic print with a modern style and/or vice versa, to avoid the frumpy look that florals can so often provide.  Here’s a mix of designer and high street, some of which may well fool you, and all of which are totally collectible.  One or more may be growing in your wardrobe very soon.

Florals are perfect for those occasions when the sun comes out and you want something on trend, gorgeous and a little bit different.  Steer clear of frilly or ruffled styles unless they’re very modern in terms of style, they can age you gracelessly in an instant.  Aim for modern prints and flattering shapes that you’ll want to wear again and again.

Without question masters in the art of floral design are Dolce & Gabbana, three of whose dresses are here, two mainline and one D&G – they manage always to combine sexy with glamour appeal and are instantly recognisable.  Invest in these if you can, they’ll be plucked soon enough.
