Liberty has always been one of my favourite stores, all the way from the days when my mother used to take me to tea there (and no, I'm not going to tell you how long ago that was). In those days it was all about fabrics, Liberty Prints, Tana Lawn (and cake) and so although it's lovely to see how the new prints have been re-invented, it's also wonderful to see how the whole brand has been re-created online and become a power-house for fashion labels, whilst still retaining its roots.
The store itself, despite the totally new product ranges, hasn't changed very much, housed as it is in the amazing Tudor style building on Regent and Great Marlborough Street. If you don't know it you should have a look here. The light is pretty well the same, the boards still creak in the same way if you step in the right place but the contents are completely different and for any fashion addict it's an essential destination.
Luxury, Limited Editions and Liberty of London sit alongside some of the most precious beauty brands such as Diptyque, Maison Francis Kurkdjian and Robert Piguet but it's the fashion area that has really grown up, and it's not at all surprising that Liberty was last year winner in Handbag.com's Online Fashion Awards.
Getting back to what really matters, my favourite brands here are Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith Black Label and Marc by Marc Jacobs, so no surprises there then. There are new arrivals on the website all the time, so, particularly at this time of year, you just have to keep checking back. Of course. Unfortunately for my bank balance I've already seen several things that may be making my way into my wardrobe quite soon. I feel an expensive spring coming on......
